Page Rank is an algorithm used by the Google Search Engine that assigns a numerical weight to a given element E and is denoted by PR (E). Page Rank’s primary goal is to determine the authority of a web page.
Google describes Page Rank as
“Page Rank relies on the uniquely democratic nature of the web by using its vast link structure as an indicator of an individual page's value. Google interprets a link from page A to page B as a vote by page A for page B. But, Google looks at more than the sheer volume of votes, or links a page receives; it also analyzes the page that casts the vote. Votes cast by pages that are themselves "important" weigh more heavily and help to make other pages "important".”
Google Page Rank is a very important part of Google’s algorithm which determines the authority of a site in Google's Index. We can also call Page Rank as a Google's way of deciding web page’s importance. It was developed by Google's founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin in 1998.
The utter number of pages linking to a page will not influence its Page Rank but the Page Rank of each of these pages and how many links appear on them. Theoretically, a simplest way to improve Page Rank is to get a link from a good quality site with a PR of 9 or 10 linking to you from their website’s front page.
The most important factors that determine the page rank are as follows:
1. Incoming links to your site.
2. The relevant pages linking to your site and the Page Rank of these pages.
3. The keywords used by other sites to link your site.
All these above factors determine how high your site is shown in search engines. Therefore, building a good website with good content, using important keywords and proactively working every day for creating new back links to a website are the factors which improve its Page Rank. The sites with highest Page Rank never worry about Page Rank, but they keep adding content that people love to link to. This strategy should be followed by every webmaster and Internet entrepreneur for their online success.
